Your home server connects Storage Keeper across your devices. It runs on your own computer, without a central VULEN server.

Before you begin

This guide takes you through setting up the home server and connecting your devices. No download is available at present.

What you need

A 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 PC.
Administrator access for installation.
Your PC and phones on the same home network.
The PC switched on when devices sync through it.

You do not need a home server to use the Android app locally.

1. Set up your PC

Open the VULEN-provided Heimserver-Setup.exe. Approve administrator access only after checking the source and file.
Follow the installer using Weiter (Next). The selected option Zugriff aus dem Heimnetz erlauben (Firewall) allows access from private home networks.
Select Fertigstellen (Finish). A house icon appears beside the Windows clock. The server starts automatically when you sign in to Windows.
Double-click the house icon to open the management page.
Select Handy koppeln → Kopplungscode erzeugen (Pair phone → Generate pairing code). Each code is valid for ten minutes and can be used once. Generate a separate code for each device.

Why does Windows show a warning?

The existing test installer is not digitally signed. Windows may display “Windows protected your PC”. “More info” reveals “Run anyway”. Use this only for an explicitly approved test file from a confirmed source with a matching checksum. A checksum alone does not make an unknown source trustworthy. The unsigned test installer is not offered for download here.

2. Connect your phone

ANDROID

Scan the pairing code

In the app, open Einstellungen → Speicherort → Mit eigenem Server → QR-Code scannen.
Scan the QR code on the management page.
When prompted, select Speichern (Save).

Android uses HTTPS with certificate pinning. This pairing flow still needs its final real-phone test.

IPHONE · WEB APP

Open the address in Safari

Open the address shown on the management page, ending in /lager/.
In the web app settings, enter the valid code under Zugangsschlüssel oder Kopplungscode and select Speichern.
In Safari, select Share → Add to Home Screen.

The current iPhone test version uses unencrypted HTTP on your home network. Use it only on a trusted network. Enter the code manually; camera scanning is not available in this HTTP web view.

3. Check the connection

Green: connected.
Yellow: offline.
Red: error.
Blue: data stored only on your phone.

Create a harmless test entry and check it on your other device. Entries normally sync within about 30 seconds; shopping list changes within about ten seconds. Timing depends on the connection.

When the PC is off

Android: keep working locally. Changes sync once the server becomes reachable again.

iPhone web app: needs the running server on your home network. Use “Liste teilen” to take your shopping list with you beforehand.

Need help?

The server cannot be reached

Check that the PC is on, the house icon is present, and both devices are on the same home network rather than guest Wi-Fi or mobile data. Router port forwarding is not needed.

The pairing code expired

Generate another code on the management page. Codes last ten minutes and work once.

Your router or PC address changed

Generate a new code and pair the device again.

Two Android phones: no server needed

Use Menü → Mit anderem Handy abgleichen to transfer data directly by QR code. Final testing on two Android phones is still pending. This is separate from pairing with a server.
